URGENT- Hayden, Alabama - Desperate situation with Pot Bellied Pig:7/14

I Have Tried And Failed to help!

I have tried everything that I know and lots that I did not know to find this  POT BELLIED PIG A HOME, but I am getting no where. He is still running up and down Ship Road in Hayden, Alabama with that family that makes the Beverly Hillbillies look like movie stars.  He is running around HUMPING dogs and sleeping on their front porch.  A friend of ours Vallerie F went up there Sunday and rescued one more dog but there are still a bunch left and a truck load of cats. Many mixed breeds with scabies and or mange

The poor pig spent the night in a 55 gallon drum that they(the owners)

caught him in but when no one came wanting him they turned him back out.

BET HE Won't ever Fall for that trick again..

Can anyone think of a solution for this pig???

I am forwarding  this to anyone I can think of.  If someone hits this pig it can not only kill him but could injure or kill a whole family.  There is lots of traffic on the road in front of

Red Hill CHURCH. This is in Blount County and Animal control from Birmingham

does not cover this area.  Owner said ""she was afraid Blount Co. would put them

to sleep".

The Owner is willing for ANYONE TO TAKE HIM..

Please don't let it be someone who will have him for dinner!

ADOPT-A-THON ADOPTION GONE WRONG

Hey ya'll!  I have a sad story to tell & need to know if anyone can help.

On May 1, 2004 we had our open house & adopt-a-thon.  It was a huge success.  Well, during the course of the day, we had the cutest little butterscotch merle colored puppy with a smidgen of blue in one eye.  We called him a Catahoula mix (just the wrong color).  He had a clever name (for the life of me I can't remember - it may have been Butterscotch). An older gentleman really wanted the dog (when I say older, I mean like late 70's!)  We did everything we could to discourage him (you know the story, old person, puppy, big dog, etc.....) but he was bound & determined.  We had no good reason to refuse him, so we let him adopt & hoped for the best.

Well, this guy turned the dog in today.  Not only is he not cute & little any more - he's down right ugly!  And he gave him a crappy name to boot! (Buck)  Well, he's about 50# now and covered in little black scars.  I asked him about that and the guy said he (the dog) "got into some bees" - well, it was probably more like ground hornets and now he's peppered with a hundred of these little ugly black scar marks.   If you've ever seen a dog that has healed from a shot gun blast, you know what I'm talking about:  Tons of little tiny black scars.  He's still the sweetest little dog.  He s pretty ok on manners, but could use some  more. He's neutered, current on all shots & rabies.  He'd be great in almost any situation.

He's one of those really special ones that comes along.  When you've worked in this business as long as I have, you have to protect yourself emotionally.  And occasionally a critter comes along (about 1-2 a year, that's it) that just sings to your soul.  He is one of these dogs.  I cannot take him home, but he deserves a chance.  He needs someone who can see past the ugly and see his beautiful heart.   He is in pen 65.  If you can adopt him (only $25 cuz he's all ready to go, +$5 for city license if necessary) even as a foster family, I will do everything I can to help you place him.  We've had volunteers do this in the past - they adopt from us then do a private adoption later, but we'll run the pet on our PetFinder page.

Yes, you're welcome to cross post.  Just remember if anyone can help him, they've gotta' come get him.   Thanks! Mary   Mary J. Ultz  Humane Educator  City of Huntsville  (256) 883-3794  Mary.Ultz @hsvcity.com

PIG PROBLEM

Correspondents and Liaisons Needed!

There are a myriad of positions available for many different agencies throughout the U.S. There is a great need for shelter workers and volunteers, liaisons, political activists, campaigners, publicists and press people, photographers, correspondents and, yes, transporters!

Most of these positions are not, in and of themselves, demanding. Of course, if you care about animals they can become very time consuming efforts, indeed, and we appreciate the vast and varied talents of those who are doing this work -- many out of the kindness of their hearts.

If you are interested in volunteering for this effort or others, we invite you to write us and let us know what you'd like to do, how often and how you like to work. We're sure to be able to find a match for you!

We thank God for each and every one of you who care enough to confront almost insurmountable odds to do everything you can to change this travesty in our world, often facing your own  humanity to do so, and putting your own emotions on the line to care for the voiceless among us: GODSPEED to each and every one..
