Subject: 10 Year Old Female Shepard Mix needs Help

Hi Katie,

My name is Kim Phillips and I am a volunteer with Rogers’ Rescues. I asked Trish McDonald if there was anyone who could help me cross-post out to the rescue world and she said you would be a good contact.   Is there any way you can cross post this message for me?

Thank You!

Happy New Year

Warmly,

Kim Phillips

Help Needed!

A friend of mine has asked me for help. His father has suddenly taken very ill with cancer and is in the hospital to receive his chemo treatments. His father adopted Brandy, a female Shepard mix (approx. 40lbs.) from a shelter almost 10 years ago and she is this man’s closest companion. The father will be home soon but he lives in an apartment in Riverdale (a section of the Bronx), NY.  The man will not be well enough to walk Brandy outside during the cold winter months. He is also so weak that there is concern she may hurt him if she jumps up to get close to him. My friend took Brandy home to his apartment in Voorhees, NJ but his apartment complex has a total pet weight limit and with Brandy there in addition to his own small dog, they are over the limit.

I met the dog myself so I could evaluate her and take some pictures. I was originally told she was not good with other dogs, but from my evaluation, she has just never been socialized with other dogs. While she was only at my house approx. 2 hours, she did fine with both of my Golden Retrievers. Since leaving NY and coming to NJ she has been living with a small female Shitzu and has been doing fine. She is now being crated and she is doing very well. She even goes in on her own. She is spayed, UTD on shots and just went to vet last week and is in great health. The vet even commented that he never would’ve guessed she’s 10 years old.

Brandy’s time at the apartment in Voorhees is limited. If someone complains, or the landlord finds out, she will need to be moved immediately. There is no telling how long it will be until the father is up on his feet so the family is hoping to find another loving family for Brandy.

Is there anyone out there that can help? I imagine it won’t be easy to place a 10 year old dog, but I don’t know what else to tell them. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’ve attached pictures of Brandy, but they really don’t show her beauty.

Thank you,

Kim Phillips
