Note:

We have a 5-6 year old intact male Dalmation, 69lbs, at MHS Westland. He is very active in his cage (hard to put back) Very nice and lovable when out! He has kennel cough, we have no fosters and NO room for him! He needs out ASAP! If we have no room, he may need to go by 2:00pm tomorrow when we close. He can be adopted to the public, that fee would be $105, to rescue he is $25, and another $25 sterilization deposit. Please let us know ASAP if you think you can help! Thanks,

[NEW YORK] SWEETHEART, an unspayed senior dalmatian, so named because of her beautiful, loving disposition with humans, was found, lost in NYC, and landed in Manhattan's CACC.  She  had several strikes against her, a severe respiratory condition, a litttle growth on her eye, and a lot of milage,  Yet she won over the hearts of CACC staff,  as was rescued.  Sweetheart spent several days in a veterinary hospital, was treated for pneumonia, was temporarily fostered and is ready to go, She loves people, and that includes children.  Unfortunately Sweetheart showed aggressive behavior to the dogs and cats in her foster home and MUST LEAVE TODAY.
Sweetheart needs to be the  only pet...or in a home  because this girl  does not want to share her humans with any pets. Is there a human out there, willing to  foster or adopt a loving old companion in desperate IMEDIATE need ???
If so, please contact Harriet Koss, at 718 522-4782  or e=mail   hckoss@aol.com.  Her photo can be seen at daladopt.petfinder.com.

Subject: URGENT - SWEET DALMATIAN NEEDS FOSTER/FOREVER HOME
Importance: High

I am pleading for assistance for a wonderful dog. She was brought to
our veterinary hospital 11 days ago as a stray (found running in the
road). We completely vetted her and she is in excellent health; up-to-
date on all vaccines, including Bordetella; fecal negative, heartworm
negative, and is most likely spayed according to our vet.

She is approximately 10 years old, lively and playful, with good
manners (no chewing, garbage digging, quiet in her kennel). She is a
wonderful dog that has stolen my heart, and I can't bare that she may
have to be taken to the Akron City Pound. She is a BEAUTIFUL dog.
Thank you for any help. If you can't take her into your rescue,
please pass this message onto someone who may be able to do so. She
is located in Hudson, Ohio. She does not like small children!! She was
adopted and returned because of that- please help!! If you know of
any dal rescues or senior rescues, please forward!

Here is what Erika had to say about Jewel:

Here are pics of Jewel.  She is 4 years old, currently intact and was about to be dumped at the shelter because she didn't like the shihtzu in the family.  Apparently the little dog scared her and she snapped at him a few times.  The family said she never actually bit or hurt the other dog.  Seems to be good with kids, but may have some food aggression issues so should not be placed in a home with small kids.  She seems to be more afraid of other dogs than actually aggressive toward them.  Will run if scared.

She has already bonded with me, even though I had to jump on top of her yesterday to keep her from running away.  Very loving and affectionate, but will need some time to adjust to new environment. I will see if I can heartworm test her over the weekend.  Hopefully her folks will provide shot records so she won't have to have anything repeated.

I think with slow introductions and the right situation, she would do fine with another dog.

Thanks,
Erika

Special [Young!] Deaf Dal Needs Rescue!

I've learned of a very sweet 1.5 yo deaf male in Las Cruces NM who is
about to be put down. They've kept him for several months I guess but
have had no luck placing him.  We have no room here so I'm asking for
help. Anyone know someone who wants a very friendly, loving boy with
special needs?  The shelter really wants to save him and will help with transport as much as they can.

Subject: SF Bay area, CA:  great family Dalmatian male, neutered,  urgently needs new home due to family tragedy; AVAIL/RESCUE

First of all, thank you so much for getting back to me. I am beside myself with desparation.  Buddy has been a loving, loyal and happy dog for the past 8 years that we have owned him (since birth). Our current situation with our daughter's condition is forcing us to give Buddy up for adoption. Hygiene, sudden hospital trips and two children (one ill) has left us unable to give Buddy the love and attention he deserves and needs.

Buddy is about 65 pounds, pretty energetic (we had him walked 3-4 days a week and ran him at the beach on the weekends). He is super lovable and good with even small children (as you will see by the photos that I send over) and other dogs. I do not think he would do well with a cat. He can be a bit mischievous when it comes to food, but if there is a watchful eye and proper attention he is very manageable. Buddy is about 8 years old and some of the crazy Dalmatian puppy stuff has worn out and after a good run he is a good napper.

He is definitely an indoor dog. His only medical condition is an over active thyroid.  We give him prednisone for it and he has slowly stopped taking it.  He has not been on it for the past 5 months so he may be finished with taking it all together. Other than that he has been very healthy. If any dog deserves a second loving family it is Buddy.  I think Kate Corcoran's contact info was given for Buddy but my contact info is 415-722-1519 and you have my email address.  We are more than happy to help out the new family that takes him by providing the first months food and medical bills if they want to take him in for a check-up. He just had his vaccinations and he is neutered.

He was given a  clean bill of health although I think he has an ear infection right now. Again, if that is so we will pay for the trip to the vet to get it cleared up. Photos to follow.  We would love it if Pat could take him to the adoption program this weekend. You can pick him up from Kate. I'll forward your message on to her so you can arrange pick-up!  Thank you thank you...we are holding on to him as long as we can.  We want the best for him and love him very much!

Natalie

I just had to share this with everyone!

I have a puppy mill surviver in my home. He's a dog with no exposure to humans and so scared of human touch. We've been making good, but slow, progress, BUT, today we made giant progress!  I had a friend in Alasksa send me some dog treats made of salmon.  WELL, I am now Boo's best friend!  So, if you ever need to reach an unreachable dog, try salmon treats!

I may import them if I can't find them locally!

Please share with others, trainers, competitors, etc.  I am going to use them in the showring too.  All my dogs went bonkers for these little gems.

I am aware of someone who has a dalmation that they need a home for. If they can't find a home for her, they are going to put her down. Can you please help us find her a home. Her info. is as follows:
Her name is Kylie. She is spayed, housebroken. She is eight years old. She doesn't like to be around kids (which is the problem with the current owners). She is timid and shy. She hates beeping sounds because they scare her, pagers, smoke detectors, etc... Anything you can do to help, or any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

Best Friends?

Correspondents and Liaisons Needed!

There are a myriad of positions available for many different agencies throughout the U.S. There is a great need for shelter workers and volunteers, liaisons, political activists, campaigners, publicists and press people, photographers, correspondents and, yes, transporters!

Most of these positions are not, in and of themselves, demanding. Of course, if you care about animals they can become very time consuming efforts, indeed, and we appreciate the vast and varied talents of those who are doing this work -- many out of the kindness of their hearts.

If you are interested in volunteering for this effort or others, we invite you to write us and let us know what you'd like to do, how often and how you like to work. We're sure to be able to find a match for you!

We thank God for each and every one of you who care enough to confront almost insurmountable odds to do everything you can to change this travesty in our world, often facing your own  humanity to do so, and putting your own emotions on the line to care for the voiceless among us: GODSPEED to each and every one...
