BEST FRIENDS ART PROJECT DC
Hi..I've got a small senior
dog rescue here in eastern Oklahoma. Due
to serious medical problems that has come up with my husband, I am
going to have move these dogs fast. If there are any rescues that
could take them, I'd really be grateful.
1) Andy...14 yr old shih tzu mix. Has cataracts but can still see
to get around pretty good. He does have skin allergies but they are
healing. He is very low activity level. Give him a bed,
food/water and take him potty and he's happy. Very much a couch
potatoe. I feel he has little if any hearing as he does not respond
to calling/loud noises and etc. I got him from a shelter where he
had been for close to 4 years so any social skills he ever possessed,
he's lost. He loves to be petted and loved on but doesn't know to
come to you for it. You have to go to him.
2) Max... a 14 yr old shih tzu. Has cataracts and very poor eye
sight. Also is very hard of hearing. Like Andy, give him a bed,
food and take him potty..he's happy..another couch potatoe. Max has
lost his teeth on one side so his little tongue hangs out most of the
time. I also got him from the same shelter as Andy and he had been
there for nearly 4 years too. He is like Andy also in that he
doesn't know to come to you for affection.
3) Bobby...is a 12 yr old white poodle I just rescued. He is a very
special need guy. I got him from a kill shelter where he had been
adopted but returned after 2 weeks because the lady didn't want a
blind dog. He is completely blind from cataracts. I don't feel
he's been blind very long. He is very nervous and does alot of
pacing. I don't think he hears very well, either. He has been shaved
due to such bad matting. He's a tall minature and right now he
looks like a small lamb. He does have a docked tail.
4) Maggie is not a senior dog but I've got her anyway. She's a 8
month old boxer/rottie mix sweetheart. Very hyper and loveable. She
looks all boxer...natural ears, docked tail, boxer type fur..complete
with that boxer wiggle. She has not been spayed yet but will be
shortly.
All of these dogs are UTD on all vaccines. If anyone can help -
thank you- or if you know of anyone that can help, please cross-post.
Thanks.
Kathy

This little guy is
black smooth coat with a darling personality. He is a senior though and
we are hoping someone will find it in their hearts to adopt an 11 yr old
N/m who wants a warm bed and warm heart to spend his last few years
with. His owner ran a daycare from her home and it was just too much
activity for this older guy.

I've read all the messages on transport
posts and discussed with fellow list
moderator Cindy, and this is what we think makes sense for the DC-rescue
list:
Although there are numerous lists dedicated to transport specifically, it
seems that there has been help forthcoming for some transports from people
on this list, so they are useful. We would highly encourage those of you
interested in doing transport to join the transport-specific lists, but in
general don't prohibit them from going on this list.
We *seriously* discourage posts that are taking animals several states
removed from us, with destinations several states removed from us, to find
their way on this list. On the other hand, requesting help for rescue
people working in adjacent states and surrounding rural areas seems to be
desired (rural VA, lower PA, lower DE, and WV, and so on), and the reponse
rate also seems to be good for this.
Finally, as a reminder, the list was created in order to try to help
alleviate the pet overpopulation problem in the DC metropolitan area, not
to
facilitate transports from one part of the country to another. There are
always exceptions, but in general this list is about DC/MD/VA. Remember,
there are lists that include everything but the kitchen sink out there :)
but we are trying not to be one of those. We want to try to stay focused
(1) to increase effectiveness (2) to keep the attention of list members
and
(3) to encourage more subscriptions from those who have a true concern
with
animals in the DC metro area.
A refresher on the basic purpose of the list:
"DC-Rescue is a clearinghouse for information about animals in need in the
DC metropolitan area and surrounds. If you know of openings in foster
homes, a shelter closing, a puppy mill raid, or any other circumstance
that can aid in matching up homeless pets with caretakers, please post
that information here. Please try to respect the geographical focus of
this list."
Thanks for your cooperation. |

Correspondents, writers, photo-graphers,
liaisons, advocates and MORE Needed!
There are a myriad of positions available
for many different agencies throughout the U.S. There is a great need for
shelter workers and volunteers, liaisons, political activists,
campaigners, publicists and press people, photographers, correspondents
and, yes, transporters!
Most of these positions are not, in and of
themselves, demanding. Of course, if you care about animals they can
become very time consuming efforts, indeed, and we appreciate the vast and
varied talents of those who are doing this work -- many out of the
kindness of their hearts.
If you are interested in volunteering for
this effort or others, we invite you
to write us and let us know what you'd like to do, how often and how you
like to work. We're sure to be able to find a match for you!
We thank God for each and every one of you
who care enough to confront almost insurmountable odds to do everything
you can to change this travesty in our world, often facing your own
humanity to do so, and putting your own emotions on the line to care for
the voiceless among us: GODSPEED to each and every one... |
