ATHENA NEEDS RESCUE

Athena is a 2 year old, female spayed (DOB May 2, 2002) black and white terrier mix.  She was a dog I rescued from a local animal shelter, a  kill shelter where she and her brother had been for nearly a month.   She has been in my home since March and I had planned on making her a  permanent member of the family. Unfortunately, I have another female I  rescued before Athena , and she has displayed serious aggressive  behavior towards Athena, resulting in injuries to both dogs.

My other dog required vet attention for some of her injuries, and even since she  still persists to attack Athena.   I have desperately searched for a  home to no avail here in western Maryland.  Athena is an amazing dog  who will be missed in my home.  She is excellent with cats( I've  attached a photo with here and a stray rescue cat) and she is good with  other dogs.  She is completely house broken, and has never had an  accident in my home since she came from the pound.

She is very  obedient and loves to please.  She walks well on leash, though she  will pull at first until you command her to walk.  I have a fenced  yard, but she returns and listens very well if in a large open area.   She loves to swim and ride in canoes, and is  excellent in water  retrieval (She too loves vacations!).  She rides very well in cars  uncrated on long trips.  She loves sitting and looking out the mirror  all the way.  She is a cuddler and loves to sleep in bed or lay with  you on the couch.  She enjoys all sorts of toys such as plush toys with  squeakers, balls, ropes, and nylabones.  She has never bitten or showed  any aggression towards children of any age or any human for that matter.  She has a very mothering attitude and she always cleaning faces and  making over my other pets. I've had her around babies and children of  all ages.  She does love to jump up and give you a kiss when you come  home, but is obedient when told to stay down.  She is great, and I  would love to keep her.  However, for both females safety I believe a  safe home is the best solution.

I have attached pictures and vet  records.  Please feel free to call me anytime for more information  (301)689-9565 or my cell 301-697-8051.  I know from the past five  months of having this lady in my home that she will make an amazing  family member.  I just want to ensure a loving home where she will not  be tied or pinned in small confines.  She is a princess and I hope you  can help find a family who will treat her as such.    Thank you so much for your assistance, Angie Burns aburns3@mix.wvu.edu

75,000 American horses were slaughtered for human consumption in
2002. This equals 205.48 horses PER DAY! A horse is probably being
brutally slaughtered RIGHT NOW.

Subject: Heads up: Texas Arabians need help!!!

The horses at this website will be auctioned at a public auction in
Woodville, TX, without papers, unless sold before Sept.

Please look at them and forward this email to anyone who might be

Dear Animal Lovers, Activists and Rescuers:

The Queenie Foundation announces its ninth annual National Homeless
Animals' Day Candlelight Vigil Saturday, August 21, 2004, Dallas, at
Flag Pole Hill (Buckner Blvd. and Northwest Highway) from 6 - 9 PM.
The International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) began this event
in 1992. You can check out the website at www.ISARonline.org; the
vigil is listed under Campaigns.

This year's theme is "I Survived Death Row." Therefore, I am calling
upon all organizations and people that have saved an animal off death
row from any shelter, and I don't care if it's a hedgehog, to bring
those animals to the vigil.

We will highlight these animals during the vigil and acknowledge all
of the organizations and people for the tireless work that you do to
save homeless animals. (Please bring a photo if the animal cannot
attend the vigil.)

When you RSVP, please let us know if you're bringing a death row
survivor and the species of the animal.

All rescue - adoption/legislative/rights/welfare organizations are
invited to set up their table starting at 5 PM; all others are
invited to attend. This event is free for everyone. Please invite
your volunteers, family, friends, co-workers and neighbors (leashed
companion animals are always welcome). We also encourage you to post
this event on your website and list it in your newsletter. The Meet &
Greet is from 6 - 8 and the vigil is 8 - 9 PM.

Please RSVP to vigil2004@comcast.net if you plan to have a table.
This is an event to inform the public about the tragedy of animal
overpopulation, specifically dogs and cats and that spay/neuter is
the answer, HOWEVER, it can apply to any species, such as rabbits,
horses and farm animals (saved from slaughter). We invite you to wear
your organization T-shirt, display your banner, bring your literature
and photos of your adoptable animals, sign people up on your mailing
list, make appointments with prospective adopters and invite the
public to volunteer with your organization. This is not an adoption
event. If you are a rescue and planning to attend with some of the
animals in your system or personal animals, please make sure that
they are sterilized and current on vaccinations. No rescue will be
allowed to participate with unsterilized animals.

Our Special Guest Speaker is Tami Stanley, Gifted Animal Program
Certified Diagnostician. Ms. Stanley will do a demonstration with her
working dogs. Other guest speakers are Starlyn Smelker with the
Greyhound Protection League and Linda McKellor with DFWCares.
Recipients of The Queenie Foundation's Outstanding Media Coverage
Award and Rescuer Par Excellence Award are Randy Bigham and Jennifer
Mills with the Navarro County Star and Audrey Merritt, Founder of the
North Ellis County Animal Awareness Program (NECAAP), respectively.

Tasty food will be available from Ft. Worth's own Spiral Diner. Dr.
David Kahn will be available to administer vaccinations. Live music
provided by Naked Violet.

Please call 972.274.2564 or write to vigil2004@comcast.net if you
have questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Great Danes in Marshall, Texas Shelter

Correspondents, writers, photo-graphers, liaisons, advocates and MORE Needed!

There are a myriad of positions available for many different agencies throughout the U.S. There is a great need for shelter workers and volunteers, liaisons, political activists, campaigners, publicists and press people, photographers, correspondents and, yes, transporters!

Most of these positions are not, in and of themselves, demanding. Of course, if you care about animals they can become very time consuming efforts, indeed, and we appreciate the vast and varied talents of those who are doing this work -- many out of the kindness of their hearts.

If you are interested in volunteering for this effort or others, we invite you to write us and let us know what you'd like to do, how often and how you like to work. We're sure to be able to find a match for you!

We thank God for each and every one of you who care enough to confront almost insurmountable odds to do everything you can to change this travesty in our world, often facing your own  humanity to do so, and putting your own emotions on the line to care for the voiceless among us: GODSPEED to each and every one...
