One look at
the face on this dog, and you're going to fall in love! Lucas is a young male
shepherd/chow mix who is at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro, NJ.
When Lucas was surrendered, his owner said neighborhood kids were teasing the
dog and he was afraid there would be trouble. Maybe this is why he was a little
shy when he arrived. Over the months that hes been in the shelter, though,
Lucas has started to blossom into an incredibly sweet pup. Hes still a bit shy
around new people, and he can still be intimidated if someone approaches him
without being calm. But once you gain his trust, hes playful and amazingly
affectionate. He has been getting along well with everyone hes met, including
the other dogs. Lucas now walks nicely on a leash and even knows how to "sit"
and "give paw". This very sweet dog simply needs an owner who loves him and is
willing to teach him what's expected of him. He would still benefit from basic
obedience lessons, and a volunteer is going to help him with that in the next
class session. Once Lucas is in a safe, loving environment, hes going to be an
excellent pet.
