Responsible Animal Owners of Tennessee (RAOT), in Memphis, will help you adopt this dog through their Homeward Bound Program, designed to assist with out-of-area adopters.

TN--MEMPHIS ANIMAL SHELTER UPDATE 8/2---PLEASE HELP
Do you have enough compassion to motivate you to take a ride to Memphis and save an animal...from being GASSED?? If you can't ..would you kindly, call any dog/cat loving friends in Memphis and tell them how many animals..young, adorable, loving are desperate to LIVE NEED HOMES NOW?? ...If you know the e mail addresses of ANY Tn. rescue groups..please fwd this to them..
You are about to see a very long list of defenceless animals on DEATH ROW..Humans put them there...let's take them out..and give them a chance to run around and enjoy life..by our side, as our PETS!!!PLEASE, try to help..even w/ just a phone call to someone you know in Memphis who loves animals....thank you..counting on some kind hearted people to take pity on these precious creatures...

The Memphis Animal Shelter is located at 3456 Tchulahoma Rd. in Memphis,
TN, Phone # 901-362-5310.

Normal hours are Tues - Fri 10 to 5 and Mon and Sat 10 to 3. Adoptions till 4:45 and 2:45 respectively. Adoption fee is $50. Fee for dogs includes heartworm test, spay/neuter, and rabies, parvo, and distemper vaccinations. Fee for cats is $45 I think that includes feline lukemia test, spay/neuter and vaccinations.

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT ADOPTIONS -- the shelter takes ONLY cash or check for adoption fees -- NO CREDIT CARDS. Also, adoptions can only be completed IN PERSON -- no adoptions can be handled by phone. No dogs or cats are "held" for anyone. All adoptions are strictly "first come, first served".

For EVERY adopted dog or cat -- NO spay/neuter surgery is performed until the adoption has been COMPLETED (paid for). Then (unless the animal is already altered, which is usually NOT the case), and only then, is the animal scheduled for surgery and can be picked up (leave the shelter) AFTER the surgery has been completed. This usually takes 2-3 days.

HOLDING period for STRAYS is ONLY 3 WORKING DAYS. The 'due out' date is the date that
the dog can be adopted (end of holding period).

Stray adoptions - all strays are held THROUGH their due out date. A stray can be adopted ON its due out date (NOT before). But, if not adopted on that date, it will be PTS the next morning.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT THE "DUE OUT" POLICY FOR DOGS WITH KNOWN
OWNERS.

1) The shelter can decide to have a 'known owner' dog PTS ON or BEFORE the due out date.

2) If anyone sees a dog posted that has a "known owner" and they are interested in adopting that dog, they need to call or go to the shelter BEFORE the due out date. Ask for or go to the adoption window - have the cage # and the ID # - ask the person in the adoption window for the owner status of that dog.

3) If you think you are AT ALL interested in adopting a 'known owner' dog, you need to check the paperwok for the status of owner contact - sometimes when the owner HAS been contacted, they will hold the dog a few extra days to allow the owner some time to reclaim if they have expressed intent to do so. Thus, if you want to adopt a 'known owner' dog, you may have to 'keep tabs' on the dog EVERY DAY, because the staff can decide AT ANY TIME to destroy the dog - NO WARNING!!

For most (not all) stray puppies and SOME adult SMALL dogs that would fit in puppy adoption (such as chihuahuas, terriers) -- unless a puppy or small dog is sick or there is otherwise something seriously wrong with it, the pup or small dog will be moved to adoption if not adopted at the end of the holding period.

SOME adult dogs can get moved to adoption, but the adoption area is much smaller than holding - 1/4 number of cages. Most adult dogs will not make it to adoption from holding.

Also, dogs in adoption are NOT kept indefinitely -- if not adopted in approximately
two weeks (or LESS!), they are put down!

IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD FOR THESE ANIMALS...HOPING SOMEONE W/A BIG HEART WILL RECOGNIZE that there are some very irresponsible animal owners, who dump their pets..like trash into shelters..to be killed!!! PLEASE HAVE COMPASSION and rectify your brother's wrongs.
