Subject: [phillydog] Help us stop another puppymill
This came through on one of my other dog lists today. Is there anyone
on this (besides Monica, I already sent it to her) that works with the
groups against puppy mills. Just thought someone on this list may be able
to give her some contacts of people that could help, or at least some
information they could use to fight this.
Thanks

Subject: Help us stop another puppy mill
I received this request for help today -- perhaps someone on the list
can offer some more advice than I was able to offer.
My name is Andy Olearczyk. I
live in Lititz, Pa. I am looking for advise on how to stop a new puppy mill.
Our Amish neighbors currently have 4 puppy mills in operation that surround
our development. They have thousands of dogs. They have an application
before the Penn township zoning board for yet another kennel to house 236
dogs. This cash business is growing big time! The meeting is set for Sept
8th next Wed. Please help if you can. We need specific ideas. If you, or any
friends can come please do. Send me ideas or anything that you think may
help. For any more info or directions, I can be reached at golfly2@aol or
call my cell (717)940-0907. I'd be happy to talk. Thanks in advance.
Regards, Andy O."

Hello - my name is
Cheryl and I just recently joined this group - I'm a member of several other
dog rescue groups and was invited to join this one. I had to respond to
this email - I just recently adopted another dog from Ohio when I found out
from a rescue friend she was slated to die in the gas chamber. I think it's
horrible that Ohio still gasses it's dogs and cats. I live in Erie, PA - I
just checked mapquest and I'm about two hours away from Lisbon, Ohio.
Please, if anyone needs animals pulled and temp boarded until they can get
into a rescue, consider me. I have a small house, but could pull two or
three dogs at a time. Every little bit helps! Please contact me privately
at cheryl0222@aol.com if you need my
help in any way - transports or pulling animals. C'mon Ohio - PA is willing
to help, how about you??
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT
COLUMBIANA IN OHIO: I'm sure most of you have seen posts about the
Columbiana, Ohio county dog pound. It seems like every week we get messages
saying that Columbiana is overcrowded and they are going to begin gassing
dogs to make space.
Liz Jones of Peaceable Kingdom rescue in Allentown, PA has done a wonderful
job pulling dogs from Columbiana County and getting them into rescue. Liz
estimates she has saved about 20 dogs from that horrible place. But she's
having a very hard time finding volunteers in the area to pull dogs for her
while she arranges transport to PA. Right now Liz has 5 dogs sitting in the
Columbiana pound, already altered and waiting for her to pull, but the
person who usually helps her with this seems to have disappeared. Liz will
pay the adoption fees, but once she has paid, the dogs have to be pulled
within 48 hours or she loses both the money and the dogs!
Columbiana County is in eastern Ohio, south of Youngstown and east of
Canton. There really aren't any large towns in Columbiana, which seems to
make it harder to find volunteers. If you know ANYONE in eastern Ohio or
western PA who might be able to help, will you please forward this message
to them? I am in Ohio, but about 2-1/2 hours away from Columbiana Co.
Volunteers can contact Liz at
ljones@ot.com.
Thanks so much!

Don't Forget!
On Sunday, August 22, animal rights activists from around the city
and from up and down the east coast will be converging in
Philadelphia for two very important demos. Mainstream media will be
there, and it's critical that we have as many people as possible. We
will be holding two demonstrations (each approximately 1 hour). We
will be meeting at Love Park (1600 JFK Boulevard), by the LOVE
statue, at 11 am SHARP. Anyone who has a car, we ask them to bring it
to help others travel to our second location. For those who don't
have a vehicle, don't worry! There will be rides available for
everyone who comes.
First,
we will be protesting GlaxoSmithKline to demand that
they use more alternatives to animal-testing in their product
development. GSK (whose US headquarters is in Philadelphia) is the
largest pharmaceutical firm in the world, with over 100,000
employees. GSK has recently come out in several newspaper articles
denouncing animal rights activists and calling for harsher treatment
of them by the police and a ban on certain public demonstrations.
They have also expressed their strong support for animal
experimentation, pledging MORE money for animal testing at a time
when many other companies are moving in a more humane direction.
Second, we will be protesting W.B. Saul High School. Saul is
a public high school in the Philadelphia School District that has
dozens of laboratory and farm animals that it uses as part of its
curriculum. They hold rabbits in barren plastic cages, and dozens of
other lab animals in small cages with no enrichment materials; keep
dairy cows chained by the neck for up to 20 hours a day; sell week-
old calves to veal farmers; and isolate beagle puppies in individual
cages for up to 23 hours a day. PETA as well as other national and
international animal rights groups have written Saul in recent months
asking them to improve their treatment of animals. Though the school
has expressed that it intends to make certain changes, they have
refused to give activists a specific plan or list of improvements.
Thanks so much for your support. For the monkeys, dogs, cats,
and guinea pigs being tortured in GSK experiments, and for the
beagles, rabbits, cows and other animals wasting away at Saul High
School, please join us on Sunday, August 22 to be a voice for the
voiceless.
After a day of demos what could be better then a good meal?
Join Hugs for Puppies for a SHAC7 benefit dinner on Sunday
August 22, at 6PM. The dinner will be held at Singapore Vegetarian
Restaurant (1006 Race Street). The cost is $10 for an all you can eat
vegan dinner, plus donations for the SHAC7.We will be featuring Kevin
Jonas, spokesperson for Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC).
The SHAC7 are activists, charged as terrorists, who face 23
years in jail and 1.3 million dollars in fines for political
activism. Their crime? Operating a website, and organizing legal
demonstrations. Join us in support of these activists, they are
standing trial for the civil liberities of us all.

The MD SPCA in Balto, has an
Akita, Hibachi, that is getting depressed in the kennel. He needs a break, a
vacation. Can anyone take him in for a few days? He is dog aggressive, so no
other dogs in the house. He has severe separation anxiety, so someone home
most of the time is preferable.
If you know of someone, contact Alison at 410-235-8965 #0
OR, if you know of an Akita Rescue BESIDES ARMAC & CLEMCO, contact Alison.

ALL ABOUT DICE
Foster Needed!
Dog
Dalmatian
Size: Medium
Age: Senior
Sex: Male
I.D: San
Notes:
DICE NEEDS A NEW FOSTER HOME NOW! IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE CONTACT
TRISH AT ROGERSRESCUES@AOL.COM.
THANKS!
Rogers' Rescues
a NJ and Eastern PA Rescue, NJ
rogersrescues@aol.com
We need more
foster homes!
Won't someone please love me like my mom did?
She got too old and too sick and couldn't keep me, but she really wanted me
to have a good home so she gave me to Rogers' Rescues...but no one seems to
want me....I'm lucky enough to have 2 foster homes, but all I really want is
a permanent forever home of my own. I really miss staying in one place!
Won't you come and meet me and fall in love and take me home?
Dice is an older gentleman and quite a character who has been with us for
a very long time. He loves to go for walks and get his face carressed! When
you carress him he makes little grunts of joy! We suspect at some point he
was hit on the head by someone because if he doesn't know a person and they
go to pet him on his head, he flinches and squints his eyes.
Dice is completely housebroken and he adjusts to new surroundings quite
easily. He is now spliting his time between two foster homes on the same
street. This situation was due to a tragic turn of events for one family who
loves him so much and doesn't have the heart to turn this sweet boy away.
Because of this, we have had an opportunity to test him in different
settings. His habits change with his surroundings so we think he will become
accustomed to almost any new routine. For instance, with one of his foster
moms he insists on leash walking, (there is no fenced in yard). He loves
interacting with people and just sniffing around when he goes for walks!
With his other foster mom, he is content to spend some time in a fenced yard
to take his potty breaks. He lies on a doggie bed if he is in the kitchen,
and he sleeps on the couch if he is in the living room. He is so smart and
knows exactly who he can "con" and who he can't! A firm tone tells this guy
who is boss!
Dice is good boy who deserves to live the rest of his days with someone who
can give him all the lovin' he deserves. When you look into those soulful
eyes they seem to say "When am I going home?".
Want to meet Dice? Click here for our
Pet Adoption
Application. In order to meet any of our dogs, you must complete the

There are a myriad of positions available for many different agencies
throughout the U.S. There is a great need for shelter workers and
volunteers, liaisons, political activists, campaigners, publicists and
press people, photographers, correspondents and, yes, transporters!
Most of these positions are not, in and of themselves, demanding. Of
course, if you care about animals they can become very time consuming
efforts, indeed, and we appreciate the vast and varied talents of those
who are doing this work -- many out of the kindness of their hearts.
If you are interested in volunteering for this effort or others, we invite
you to write us and let us know what you'd like to do, how often and how
you like to work. We're sure to be able to find a match for you!
We thank God for each and every one of you who care enough to confront
almost insurmountable odds to do everything you can to change this
travesty in our world, often facing your own humanity to do so, and
putting your own emotions on the line to care for the voiceless among us:
GODSPEED to each and every one.. |
