Scooby Doobie Doo

Hello!  I live in Boone County, West Virginia , where there are no volunteers at the pound. I"m currently working on getting access to the pound to photograph and run a petfinder page for them. BUT I have to wait for the county commission to approve it.

BUT today I went to the pound just to look around, not mentioning who I was to keep from angering anyone. Unfortunately I arrived right after this weeks euthanization. I talked to the man who runs it for a while.

This pound gets no rescue pulls, no donations. The food bowls were those drawers from old refridgerators, presumably from the landfill next door, where the euthed bodies go. But it was clean. He said any donations went to the county and they used as they saw fit.  He mentioned how they usually adopted out the rotts, german shepherds, etc. ( I'm assuming people must take them to "guard" stuff. But I didn't ask to many questions as I didn't want to make him suspicious. Here it's easier to handle things their way.

Anyhow, I saw this dog there, he was an owner surrender. The Vet that morning said he was purebred. I pretended to be interested in him and managed to get him out to "play" with him, "see if he takes baths well, etc" Took him out and tied him up, played with the water hose a little bit. He's very gentle, strong as any great dane would be. Probably 30 pounds at least underweight.

Around here, you can surrender your dog no matter what it looks like without any one saying anything about what terrible shape it's in.  Approx 5 years old, non altered male. Pulls from this pound are free, they just give you an application to pay a $3 dog tax in July. BUT DO NOT CONTACT THIS POUND I DON"T WANT MY CHANCES TO HELP MESSED UP!!! They are so overworked and  desperate they don't really care where the animals go. They are euthanized weekly by the local vet.

IF you know anyone who can take this big dog, please crosspost to them. I WILL BE TRAVELING SAT THE 26TH FROM BECKLEY TO FRANKLINTONN NC, will travel towards Wytheville on 77 and to NC 40 and 85 to Creedmore NC.  I can pull this dog and bring him with him to a dropoff point, if someone would please just give this gentle giant a second chance. He isn't dog or food aggressive.

EMail me at Destined2Rebel@aol.com and I'll go pull him. PLEASE CROSSPOST QUICKLY so I can hopefully pull him and take him to a better place this weekend. I also have a foster dog, lab mix that if he is placed will free up a foster spot to save another. LAB MIX, about 1-2 years old, fully vetted except neutering that found as a stray and will transport along the same route , only want my vet costs back, email for information. Please don't let this Great Dane die!!!

Thanks so much!! Pictures below!
