Subject: UNITED ACTION FOR ANIMALS CALLS FOR BOYCOTT of GREECE

From: Gary Kaskel <gary@UA4A.org>

UNITED ACTION FOR ANIMALS asks you to please join THE AMAZING KRESKIN at a press conference at the GreekConsulate in NYC on August 10 to protest the continuing cruel slaughter of starving and homeless dogs prior to the start of the 2004 Olympic Games. Estimates suggest that approximately 80% of the 30,000 to 50,000 stray and homeless dogs in the streets of Athens have been poisoned in the past year in an effort to 'clean up' the streets prior to the opening of the 2004 Olympic Games on August 13.  Homeless dogs have been given food laced with rat poison which often leads to a slow and excruciating death that sometimes takes days.

Please forward this message! Your help is needed NOW to stop the mass slaughter of homeless dogs in Greece. World attention is focused on Athens at the dawn of the international event and the odds of bringing more attention to the plight of these dogs is at its peak. Please attend!

Location: Greek Consulate
69 East 79th Street, Between Park & Madison Avenues NYC
When: Tuesday, August 10 Between 12 noon and 1:30 pm

Some signs and materials will be provided, but concerned individuals
are encouraged to also bring their own. Volunteers are needed to assist
in event preparation, please write info@ua4a.org if you can help, or for
more information. Please confirm your attendance so that we can properly
prepare.

Disturbing video taken by Welfare for Animals Greece, a NYC advocacy
group, is available showing the gruesome methods being utilized to kill
dogs in the city and will be shown during the demonstration and press conference.

"What is happening in Greece is simply not acceptable.  Poisoning
thousands of homeless dogs prior to the Olympic Games is abhorrent and
unnecessary. We urge compassionate athletes, and concerned individuals
everywhere, to boycott Greece as a travel destination and to actively
speak out until this disgraceful practice is abandoned," said Gary
Kaskel, president of New York City-based United Action for Animals.
