Crosspost please to WV, PA and OH groups/individuals.
The December 16, 2004 issue of the Farm & Dairy newspaper (a weekly for the rural, farm, and agricultural communities of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia) featured a great article titled "Holiday advice: Pets not the best gifts". The story was from New York and emphasized strongly a number of points: Pets are not good Christmas gifts; the entire family must be involved in the decision making process of buying or adopting an animal; and that after the holidays, folks should take loved ones to the local shelter, to adopt their new friend. Although the article doesn't seem to be online, a copy of the paper should be available on news stands until new ones arrive Thursday (the 23rd). It's in the Holiday Gift Guide section. (Visit on line for sales locations) Please take a moment to write to the Editor at editorial@farmanddairy.com to thank them for picking up this article. ALSO, if you are in OH, PA or WV, and work directly in or with a kill shelter, include one line indicating your County, County seat (or nearest town), State and how readers can get ahold of you if they can volunteer to help your local pound dogs, and your contact info. Let's see if they'll have room to print the responses, and maybe we'll get some new volunteers or adoptive families! Thanks, Judy Byrd, Ohio - Just looked at the group of dogs brought in... Dalmatian beagle mixes and parents. What an adorable bunch of dogs. Sure hoping some rescue takes them All in. Wish I could but I'm way over my limit. Hoping I read they were saved. Sue looks adorable and so scared. What is the matter with the person that was moving and turned them all in. Makes me so angry. SF Pat&gang
Rufus, a young male German Shepherd Mix, is waiting for his forever
home at the Mason County Animal Shelter in Point Pleasant, WV, a
crowded shelter that is starting to fill up again as the weather gets
colder. Rufus is a big, lovable guy, about 2 years old, and very
handsome.

Correspondents, writers, photo-graphers, liaisons, advocates and MORE Needed!
There are a myriad of positions available for many different agencies throughout the U.S. There is a great need for shelter workers and volunteers, liaisons, political activists, campaigners, publicists and press people, photographers, correspondents and, yes, transporters!
Most of these positions are not, in and of themselves, demanding. Of course, if you care about animals they can become very time consuming efforts, indeed, and we appreciate the vast and varied talents of those who are doing this work -- many out of the kindness of their hearts.
If you are interested in volunteering for this effort or others, we invite you to write us and let us know what you'd like to do, how often and how you like to work. We're sure to be able to find a match for you!
We thank God for each and every one of you who care enough to confront almost insurmountable odds to do everything you can to change this travesty in our world, often facing your own humanity to do so, and putting your own emotions on the line to care for the voiceless among us: GODSPEED to each and every one...

DON'T LEAVE ME HERE!!
I sit here scared
With tears in my eyes.
Won't someone help me
Won't someone try.
I thought they loved me
But they had to move today.
They dumped me here
And just drove away.
My time is almost up
On death row I wait.
The outcome is a needle
I guess this is my fate.
There must be
someone
Who will take me from here.
I promise to always love you
Just don't leave me here.
